BDHS Boys Basketball Team Named Academic All-State

The Beaver Dam High School boy’s basketball team has been very successful on the court over the years, but they are also excelling in the classroom.  The 2019-20 version of the Golden Beavers were recently named Team Academic All-State for Division Two in the state by the Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association.  The BDHS boys finished the season with a cumulative GPA of 3.56.  That was 2nd best in all of D2.

Head coach Tim Ladron tells DailyDodge.com that this recognition is one of the goals he sets for his team every year and its near the top of the list for discussion at the initial parent meeting every fall.

Ladron says that when players are really good in the classroom, it allows him to do more on the basketball floor, both offensively and defensively.  With his team’s lack of size this year, Ladron says that you really saw that come into play as they had to get creative dealing with various matchup issues.

Coach Ladron adds that compared to other sports they have a smaller number of kids on the team, which makes it easier to stay focused as a group academically over the long grind of the season.  He says this year’s team bought into academics and he’s happy to see them rewarded by this recognition.

The WBCA awards the top three teams in each of the five divisions as Team Academic All-State each year and recognizes them with a display in the Hall of Fame area at Just A Game Fieldhouse in Wisconsin Dells.  River Falls had the top GPA in Division Two at 3.72.  This is the 1st time in Ladron’s 12-years at BDHS that the team was able to crack the top 3 and earn the prestigious honor.
