BDFD Receives Assistance To Firefighters Grant

(Beaver Dam) The Beaver Dam Fire Department is receiving grant funds to help better prepare their firefighters. The agency is a recipient of an Assistance to Firefighters Grant. It will be utilized for a Fire Ground Survival Training Course which is valued at $87-thousand-dollars. Included in the grant is a training trailer and props.

Fire Chief Michael Wesle says this equipment will greatly enhance the ability of his department to better prepare for the challenges they face on the fire ground. He says the training course will be conducted this week and will include firefighters and instructors from across the country.

Once completed, course participants will become certified fire ground survival instructors. Wesle says this will allow their certified instructors to teach the fire ground survival course to members of the Beaver Dam Fire Department and other agencies in the region.

He says this grant opportunity would not have been possible without the cooperation and support of the Beaver Dam Police and Fire Commission, the Beaver Dam Common Council, Mayor Becky Glewen, and citizens.

The fire chief also recognized Lieutenant Eric Theel for writing this grant. Wesle says without Theel’s passion and dedication to firefighting health and safety, this opportunity would not be available.
