BDFD Dive Team Receives $10K Donation

(Beaver Dam) The Beaver Dam Fire Department’s Dive Team received a large donation from a local business. The agency announced Thursday that Jahnke’s Piggly Wiggly of Juneau donated $10,000 which will cover the entire cost for a new communications system.

Fire Chief Michael Wesle says this will allow their divers to communicate with each other and with responders on the surface of the water. He says the communication will enhance diver safety and the efficiency of operations.

As the only public safety dive team in Dodge County, Wesle says this year has proved to be the busiest yet in the program’s tenure. The chief says the dive team has already responded to numerous calls in the county as well as in Waukesha County. He adds that while their divers performed admirably during these responses, inefficiencies in communication were noted and the department soon realized a new system needed to be implemented.

Wesle says the department extends their gratitude to Piggly Wiggly owners Dan and Jane Janke for their generosity. During the check presentation Dane Jahnke, who is also a 41 year veteran of the Juneau Fire Department, said (quote) “you support us and we support our communities.”
