(Beaver Dam) The Beaver Dam Fire Department has announced their new deputy chief, as well as several other promotions. Captain Lee Smith will take over as deputy chief after Matt Christian retired in May. Smith has served with the department for 24 years and is also a veteran of the United States Air Force. All told, he has over 36 years of experience in fire and emergency medical services. He is also the city’s emergency management director, department training officer, and has played a key role in countless other facets of the fire department.
Lieutenant Corey Braunschweig was promoted to the rank of captain. Braunschweig is a 15 year veteran of the department and served in the Army Reserve for 19 years and was deployed to Iraq in 2004 and 2009. He is also a member of the department’s dive team, is a CPR instructor, conducts fire inspections, and works on fire pre-plans.
Lieutenant John Jatczak was also promoted to the rank of captain. He has been with the department for 12 years and is very active in their fire prevention and investigative efforts. A swearing in ceremony for all three is planned for November 9th at the Beaver Dam Fire Department.
