(Beaver Dam) The Beaver Dam Area Community Theatre is offering a scholarship to students who grew up in the spotlight of local productions. The Jerome H. Kamps Memorial Award, established by the Kamps family in 2016, offers $500 to a 2019 high school graduate who has been actively engaged with the local theatre troupe, along with high school theater, and is pursuing a post-high school education. Graduating seniors from Beaver Dam High School, Wayland Academy, and area high schools are eligible. Selection is based on credit points for a variety of on-stage and back-stage experience and applicants must write a one-page essay on why the theatre is important to them.
The scholarship is named after the late Jerome Kamps, who was a co-founder and charter member of the community theater and an art teacher at Beaver Dam High School for thirty-four years until his retirement. During his career, Kamps designed and directed set painting for more than sixty high school plays and for several BDACT productions. The deadline is May 20.
