(Beaver Dam) The Beaver Dam Area Community Theatre recently awarded their Jerome H. Kamps Memorial Award. Beaver Dam High School graduate Ashley Hale is the 2020 recipient. In her resume, she acknowledged the major influence that theater has in her life saying (quote) “theater has allowed me to witness firsthand the role it plays in shaping my community.” Hale also participated in twenty-six theater productions, on stage and behind the scenes, throughout her school years. Most recently, Hale was a featured dancer in BDACT’s 2019 high school musical “Newsies” and performed in the theater’s summer musical “Annie.” In selecting a recipient, a committee of theater representatives evaluated the candidates’ essays and theater experiences with a point system. Committee Chair Annette Kamps says this year’s five applicants were all impressive. She says they were especially pleased with their essay’s which reflected BDACT’s mission to create an inclusive, supportive community that provides education and opportunity for people of all ages.
