(Beaver Dam) Sometimes, the show just cannot go on. The Beaver Dam Area Community Theatre Board of Directors has made the difficult decision to cancel their main stage summer musical along with the high school summer production. Managing Director David Saniter says the health and safety of the cast, crew, and audience members remains their top priority.
Saniter says the theatre consulted with the Wisconsin Department of Health Services, local physicians and reviewed CDC and state COVID-19 guidelines. While many restrictions are being lifted around the area, Saniter says experience has demonstrated that group rehearsals and performances for singers, dancers, and musicians have a higher rate of coronavirus transmission than other activities. Other area community theatres have similarly canceled summer productions.
The high school production of Brigadoon has been canceled outright, and students next year will choose a different musical. The main stage performance of the Little Mermaid will be held next summer.
Its not all bad news for performers as the theatre’s youth troupe – the Tell-A-Tale Theatre for kids in third through eighth grades – will still be performing this year. However, it will be a virtual performance titled “The Show Must Go On…line.”
