The Beaver Dam Area Arts Association is accepting registrations for a new event. The Young Writers Boot Camp is a two-day workshop scheduled later this month. Instructors include the Associations Executive Director Karla Jensen along with retired art teacher Jan Richardson and Colton Dunham, leader of the creative writing group at the Seippel Center. Breakout sessions will be age-appropriate and tailored to elementary, middle and high school writing levels. Jensen says younger kids will get to do art and writing projects together while older writers will learn the secrets of publishing as a youth, poetic techniques and new writing genres. Participants will have the opportunity to attend six break-out sessions each day with topics like flash fiction writing, how to create bold characters, creating bold scenes on paper and beginner screenplay writing and playwriting techniques. The Young Writers Boot Camp will be held at the Seippel Arts Center on Monday, August 20 and Tuesday, August 21 from 8am to 3:15pm each day. An open mic event will be scheduled at a later date for participating writers to return and read some of their work to family, friends and the public. Registration is open to youth entering fourth grade through high school. The deadline is August 15th. Contact the Seippel Arts Center at (920) 885-3635 or email [email protected] Cost for the event is $20 for BDAAA members and $25 for non-members.
