(Beaver Dam) The Beaver Dam Police Department are providing some tips to keep you safe from contractor fraud.
The agency says they have seen an uptick in complaints over the last several months. Police Lieutenant Jeremiah Johnson says it is important to do your research before making any financial payments.
“Before you decide to make that financial payment to them…make sure you’re satisfied with the Better Business Bureau reviews of them,” says Johnson. “Perhaps some references of people you can call or even a business they have done work with. You can call them up and say, ‘hey, show me what they did.’”
Johnson also suggests checking online circuit court records, or CCAP. He says users can look up businesses on the website to see if there had ever been legal issues in the past.
