Authorities Search For Suspect Who Sparked Five Vehicle Crash

(Empire) Fond du Lac County authorities are still searching for the suspect that caused a multi-vehicle crash in the Town of Empire Saturday. The accident was reported just before noon on Highway 23 east of Tower Road.

The initial investigation showed that an eastbound passenger car unsafely merged back into the eastbound lane after attempting to pass several vehicles on Highway 23. The passenger car struck a silver sedan that was also traveling east, causing it to cross the center line and hit a westbound pickup along with another westbound vehicle. The pickup then lost control, crossed the center line and struck an eastbound military style transport vehicle.

The driver of the pickup, a 66-year-old Sheboygan man, was flown from the scene with serious injuries. No other injuries were reported. Witnesses say the passenger car, which is described as a white Chevrolet Malibu or Impala or a light silver Nissan sedan, left the scene and was traveling westbound on Highway 23 towards the City of Fond du Lac. Deputies say the operator is described as a Hispanic or African-American male with black hair.

The crash remains under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact the sheriff’s office (920-929-3390) or the tip line (920-906-4777).
