Audrey M. Burton


Long time Beaver Dam resident, Audrey Mae (nee Beyer) Burton, passed away on Monday, May 14, 2018 at the age of 91 at Sylvan Crossings after a long illness. She was born on February 15, 1927 at her family’s farmhouse in Malone, WI, the daughter of Myrtle and Dewey Beyer. She had five siblings, Carl Beyer (deceased), Gloria Abraham of Pomona, CA, Ronald Beyer (deceased), Errol Beyer of California and Karen Janzen of Fond du Lac, WI.

She married F. Gordon Burton of Fond du Lac on June 28, 1947 in Fond du Lac. Together they raised 4 children, James (Linda) Burton of the Netherlands, Cathy Burton Kirby of McFarland, WI, Robert (Jane Rees) Burton of Beaver Dam and David Burton of Montello, WI. A fifth child, Richard, died at birth. They were married for over 70 years, with over 60 of those years spent in Beaver Dam. They had 6 grandchildren, Stacia, Peter, Stephanie, Jennifer, Katelyn and James and 2 great-grandchildren, Sean and Beau with another expected in October.

Audrey was a devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend. She was a loving and caring person who was always willing to help out others. She was a well-known Avon representative for over 26 years in the Beaver Dam area, as well as active in donating her time to children’s school as a PTA member and officer. She served for over 20 years on the First Ev. Lutheran Church altar guild. She was also active in retirement, when living part of the year in Florida, with their church and community in Crystal Lake Park of Avon Park, FL.

Audrey was a current member of Trinity Church – United Methodist. The family wishes to thank Pastor Cherie Forret for her attentiveness to Audrey in the months before she passed.

Her children will miss her guidance and huge heart, and her husband will miss the love of his life. The family would like to thank Roxanne from Marquardt Hospice for the support, love and guidance she provided, along with Bobby Jo and Jan of Visiting Angels for their care at home, and the staff at Sylvan Crossings for the care while she was a resident there.

Memorials in Audrey’s name may be directed to Rheumatoid Arthritis Foundation, Trinity Church – United Methodist or Shriners Hospital for Children in Chicago.

A memorial gathering for Audrey will be held on Saturday, June 9, 2018 at Cornerstone Funeral & Cremation Services, 135 Keller Blvd., Beaver Dam from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the memorial service at 12:00 p.m. with Rev. Cherie Forret officiating. Immediately following the service, a luncheon will be served at Cornerstone. Private family inurnment will take place at Oakwood Cemetery, Beaver Dam.
