Ashippun Burglary Suspect Heading To Trial

5/19/17 – An Oconomowoc woman is heading to trial for allegedly stealing cash and ammunition from the home of a friend in the Town of Ashippun. Brittany Ericson waived her right to a preliminary hearing yesterday on charges of felony Burglary along with misdemeanor Criminal Damage To Property and Theft, all as a repeat offender. Prosecutors say the 30-year-old cut a screen and broke a window to gain access to the house last May while the homeowner was out-of-town. A trail camera set to record the driveway captured an image of the suspect vehicle and that, along with blood found at the scene, led investigators to Ericson and an accomplice. 31-year-old Ashley Lowe of Oconomowoc pled guilty during an initial appearance yesterday to misdemeanor Theft and Operating While Revoked in connection with the break-in and was placed on probation for a year. The victim, meanwhile, had also developed his own leads after posting the vehicle images to social media. The suspects were later recorded on video cashing in the stolen jar of change. Ericson reportedly admitted to investigators that she used the money to purchase heroin and cocaine. If convicted of felony Burglary, Ericson could spend over 12 years in prison. An arraignment hearing is scheduled later this month.
