(Hustisford) Dodge County Sheriff Dale Schmidt provided an update on the two Missouri men connected to an armed home robbery in the town of Hustisford on January 28, 2023.
Robert L. Ledbetter was taken into custody on February 13, 2024, on a warrant, as the result of the Dodge County Sheriff’s investigation. Anthony Smith was already in custody on non-related charges. Both men are currently in custody in the state of Missouri and are facing multiple charges as well as extradition back to Wisconsin for their initial court appearances.
Ledbetter and Smith allegedly went up to a residence in Hustisford last January and told the homeowner that a suspected murderer was hiding inside. When they made entry, Ledbetter and Smith reportedly ordered the homeowner to get on the ground at gunpoint. They then asked where the homeowner kept their valuables while searching drawers and cabinets, according to the complaint.
Sheriff Dale Schmidt would like to commend the entire criminal investigative division of the sheriff’s office for their work on this case. Assisting the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office was the Palmyra and Hannibel Police Departments in Missouri.
