(Horicon) The Horicon Marsh Archaeological Festival is being held this weekend. The all-ages, family-friendly event sponsored by the Rock River Archeology Society is focused around the archeology, history, and pre-history of the Horicon Marsh and surrounding area. Organizer Julie Flemming said it will be a fun time for everyone. From 11am to 4pm on Saturday and from 11am to 3pm Sunday, visitors will have an opportunity to tour the marsh in a voyager canoe. The ride allows for a hands-on experience, simulating what it was like to travel local waterways hundreds of years ago. Voyagers Jerry Disterhaft and Glen Gorsuch say come equipped with questions. On display will be a wide-variety of artifacts including arrowheads and spear-points. The festival will be held at the Horicon Marsh Education and Visitor Center located on Highway 28 from 10am to 5pm Saturday and from 10am to 4pm on Sunday. Admission is free but Flemming says donations are appreciated which help support other educational programs.
