(Beaver Dam) Applications are being accepted for the Beaver Dam Police Department’s 17th Annual Citizens Police Academy. Officer Bill Linzenmeyer says the 12-week course covers a number of topics including firearms training, defensive tactics, OWI procedures, tours of the Dodge County Jail and court system and cadets even participate in a ride-along. The academy is not designed to certify citizens to perform law enforcement services but is taught by Beaver Dam police officers. The program has graduated 201 citizen cadets in the past 16 years. The course is free of charge but is limited to 12 applicants who must be 18 years old, have a clean record and either reside, work or own property in Beaver Dam. The program begins March 2nd and continues most Monday evenings through May 18th, typically between 6pm and 9pm. There are two Tuesday evening and one Saturday daytime class scheduled. Applications can be picked up at the police department. The deadline is this Wednesday, February 19. Application packets can be picked up at the Beaver Dam Police Department.
