(Watertown) All but one candidate in the race for State Senate District 13 appeared at a virtual Meet The Candidates Forum Wednesday night. The seat was vacated after Scott Fitzgerald was elected to Congress in the fall. Democratic candidate Melissa Winker says she is running to fight for local families, small businesses, schools and the health and safety of everyone.
Solidarity Party candidate Ben Schmitz says he has first had experience of today’s important issues, adding that there needs to be room for more parties starting with ranked choice voting to sincerely consider other opinions.
Independent candidate Spencer Zimmerman says once politicians get elected they keep getting reelected and bought out by special interests, adding that is why he supports term limits.
Republican candidate John Jagler did not participate in the forum. The race will appear on the April 6th general election ballot.
