Accused Toddler Killer Makes Initial Appearance

7/28/11 – Bond was set at just over two-million-dollars Wednesday for a Madison man charged with killing his girlfriend’s two young children. 28-year-old David Hoem is charged in Dane County with two counts of first-degree intentional homicide, false imprisonment, and strangulation-and-suffocation. According to prosecutors, Hoem claimed that the Biblical image of Daniel appeared in his car while it was parked at an east side Madison business the night of July fifth. He told police he gave the youngsters a “great big hug,” and they smiled and went to sleep. But authorities said Hoem strangled three-year-old Kemaury McArthur and his four-year-old brother Kevin. And he left their bodies in the vehicle for police to find an-hour-and-a-half later, soon after Hoem turned himself in. Police had been looking for Hoem after his girlfriend, Denise McGee, had complained that he took the youngsters from their natural father the day after she and Hoem had a major argument in which he allegedly put her in a choke-hold. He’s due back in court August ninth, when a judge will decide if there’s enough evidence to order a trial.
