Beaver Dam Wins Regional Baseball Title

The Beaver Dam High School baseball team is heading to the Sectional for the first time since 2017 after a 4-2 win over Neenah in the Regional Final on Thursday night at the BDHS Diamond.

“We played a great game.” BDHS coach Nate Wilke told  “The kids were fired up in a great atmosphere with a big crowd here. We played a really good game and got the Regional title.”

The Golden Beavers (16-8) rode the arm of junior Daelen Johnson who gave up just four hits and two two runs (1 earned), to go along with five strikeouts to earn the complete game victory.

“He’s been dominant all year.  Some of the team’s he’s knocked off this year, Janesville Craig, and Milton and Waunakee and DeForest.  You put the ball in his hands and you know he’s going to give us a chance to win any game.” Wilke said. “He pitched lights out today.”

Beaver Dam got on the board first in the bottom of the 2nd when Johnson walked and moved to 2nd on a sacrifice bunt by Ben Scharfenberg.  Nate Tisdale followed with a hot shot to 2nd that Ethan Van Dyke couldn’t handle allowing Johnson to score.

Neenah (12-12-1) plated an unearned run in the top of the 3rd to tie the game up as Brady Corso walked and moved to 2nd when Max Medrano got plunked at the plate.  Corso scored from 2nd with two outs as Eli Bryant couldn’t handle a grounder by Gradin Taschner at short.

Beaver Dam answered back with a pair of runs in the bottom of the frame as Evan Sharkey walked to lead off the inning and Logan Thomas’ single put runners at the corners with nobody out.  Sharkey scored on a pass ball, and Thomas crossed the plate on an RBI single to right by Scharfenberg.

In the 6th, Neenah got to within one run as Evan Paque doubled and scored on a single by Corso.  BDHS answered in the bottom of the inning as Alex Soto tripled to center and scored on a Logan Thomas sac fly.

A 1-6-3 double play ended a Rocket rally in the 6th and Johnson put them down in order in the 7th to secure the Regional Title.
