Randolph Boys Claim Trailways West Crown

The Randolph boys basketball team rose above adversity this season and won their third straight Trailways West conference championship.  The Rockets survived a two-week COVID related break early in the season to run through the first half of the Trailways West slate unscathed.  With these unique times conference officials decided that only the first matchup between conference foes would count as official league games and the 2nd would be a non-conference tilt.

Randolph will bump up to Division Four for this year’s postseason tournament which starts next month because of teams in the Madison and Milwaukee area opting out of this season because of the pandemic.

“You can’t get too worked up over it.  You only focus on what you can control and that’s definitely out of our hands.“ Rockets coach Tyler Fischer told Dailydodge.com.  “We’re just happy to be playing and having a postseason tournament.  You know last year making it to the Sectional Finals and then everything got cancelled.  So at least there is a postseason here and we’ll make the most of it“

The Rockets (14-2) have a busy schedule down the homestretch of the season with eight games between now and February 11th.  The run includes games with a trip to D4 #1 Cuba City on Saturday, D4 #4 Roncalli on February 6th and Division One Beaver Dam on February 9th.

“Looking at those non-conference games we want to test ourselves and get out of our comfort zone.” Fischer said. “Those should be some pretty good opponents.  You add that and couple it with the conference games that we have, and it should be some pretty good games these next two weeks.”

The Rockets will next travel to Montello on Thursday night.
