(Wisconsin) The Dodge County Farm Service Agency is encouraging dairy producers who elected to participate in the Livestock Gross Margin for Dairy Cattle Program to participate in the Margin Protection Program for Dairy for 2018 coverage. Enrollment in the United States Department of Agriculture s program began on March 25th and will run through May 10th, of 2019.
Previously under the 2014 Farm Bill, previously enrolled dairy producers were determined to be ineligible for coverage under the Margin Protection Program, but the 2018 Farm Bill included substantial changes to the USDA dairy programs, including the ability for producers with Livestock Gross Margin coverage to retroactively enroll in the Margin Protection Program. The program offers protection to dairy producers when the difference between the national all-milk price and the national average feed cost, known as the margin falls below a certain dollar amount. Eligible producers can enroll during the open sign up period at their local USDA service center. More information is available online at farmers.gov
