West Bend Man Sentenced For Dodge County Police Chase

(Lomira) A West Bend man was sentenced Wednesday to 60 days in jail with work release privileges for running from police. Calvin Joseph Werner pled no contest to one felony count of Fleeing or Eluding an Officer. A misdemeanor charge of Hit and Run was dismissed but read into the record.  A Dodge County deputy was patrolling Interstate 41 near Lomira last December as part of the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office crash reduction initiative. The deputy spotted Werner traveling at speeds near 100 miles-per-hour just south of Highway 67. During the chase that followed, Werner passed several vehicles and hit an idled truck as he exited at Highway 28. The deputy then lost visual contact with Werner and called off the pursuit. A Washington County sheriff’s deputy later apprehended the 22-year-old. According to the criminal complaint, Werner admitted to his actions and said he panicked when he saw the police. In addition to jail, Werner was placed on probation for three years.
