West Bend Man Charged In High Speed Chase Appears In Dodge County Court

12/12/17 – A West Bend man accused of running from police made his initial appearance in a Dodge County courtroom Monday. Calvin Joseph Werner is facing one felony count of Fleeing or Eluding an Officer. Last Friday, a Dodge County deputy was patrolling Interstate 41 south of Highway 67 near Lomira as part of the Dodge County Sherriff’s Office crash reduction initiative. After a short time, he spotted Werner allegedly travelling at speeds near 100 miles-per-hour. During the chase that followed, Werner reportedly passed several vehicles and hit an idled truck as he exited at Highway 28. The deputy then lost visual contact with Werner and called off the pursuit. A Washington County sheriff’s deputy later apprehended the 21-year-old. According to the criminal complaint, Werner admitted to his actions and said he panicked when he saw the police. If convicted, Werner faces up to three-and-a-half years in prison. A signature bond was set at $5,000 dollars and a judge will decide if there is enough evidence to order a trial later this month.
