5/8/17 – The Wisconsin Broadcasters Association has named WBEV the 2016 Radio Station of the Year. The recognition came Saturday night at the associations Excellence In Broadcasting Awards in Madison. The Good Karma Brands radio station was singled out in the category of news-talk station in a small market. WBEV also took home nine first place awards. Among them: Best Morning Show for Bill McCollum’s final WBEV broadcast; Best Radio Show for Brenda Murphy’s Book Nook; Surefire took home the gold for Best Commercial while the YMCA of Dodge County’s Wild, Wild West fundraiser was named Best Public Service Announcement. The news department took home trophies for Best Spot News Coverage, for reports on the missing kids found in a bat-infested mine in Iron Ridge mine, and Best Live On Scene Reporting for coverage of the Fox Lake mayor being revealed as a one-million dollar lottery winner. The Children’s Radiothon was singled out with a Community Impact award. The Beaver Dam Area Community Theatre’s Christmas Radio Play earned a nod as Best Specialty Program. Finally, for the fifth year, the Singing Eye Doctors from Vita Park Eye Associates took home the top prize for Best Client Produced Commercial for their doctored Christmas Carol ads.
