Waupun Woman Heading To Trial For Bringing Illegal Contraband Into Prison

7/3/17 – A Waupun woman will head to trial on charges she brought in illegal contraband to an inmate of the Waupun Correctional Institution. Amy Gunderson waived her right to a preliminary hearing last Thursday on one felony count of Deliver Illegal Articles to an Inmate. Last December staff at the Waupun Institute noticed an inmate in possession of sexually explicit letters allegedly from Gunderson who worked as a nurse for the Wisconsin Department of Corrections at the time. In talking with investigators, the inmate said that he and Gunderson began a relationship a year prior and were discussing an escape plan and bringing in a cell-phone and marijuana. The inmate reported that Gunderson had brought other items in for him but the only one he would specify was lotion. Authorities contacted the 41-year-old who said she did pass letters and pictures to the inmate but denied brining in the hand lotion. If convicted, Gunderson faces up to three-and-a-half years in prison. An arraignment hearing is scheduled for July 20th.
