(Waupun) Waupun officials say the new travel plaza being built in the city is scheduled to be completed on time. The roof was recently constructed at the site called Heritage Ridge Travel Plaza and Wild Goose Café. Electrical and exterior walls have also been built along with the installation of fuel tanks, water, and electric lines. City Administrator Kathy Schlieve says completing the road construction before the frost set in was important for staying on the projects timeline. The plaza will be located along the Highway 151 corridor at the State Highway 26 interchange on the south side of Waupun. Schlieve says residents have questioned its location but she says their goal is to develop that stretch of road as a prime asset and access point to surrounding urban markets. The development will feature Eden Meats along with their catering services and products. Schlieve says partnering with the business has been a positive for the city. She says they are an organization that fits the Waupun community and have already been supporting local events through donating food and services. Schlieve says future plans for the mixed-use development include attracting more businesses and potentially building multi-family housing units. The expected opening date for the plaza is slated for later this month while the Café is expected to open in February.
