Waupun Property Owners To See Full Assessment In December

11/27/17 – The city of Waupun will be conducting a full assessment of city properties. The budgeted process is intended to provide a better understanding of all taxable properties in the city to better estimate their value. City Administrator Kathy Schlieve says there a number of reasons the area is undertaking a full revaluation but the primary reason is the over 20 year gap since the last assessment. According to the Wisconsin Department of Revenue, inequity can occur over time which results in some property owners paying more than their fair share of the property tax and some paying less. Schlieve says the purpose of the revaluation is not to raise taxes but rather to provide an even distribution of the tax burden based on the market value of each property. The city has contracted with Associated Appraisal Consultants and staff members will begin going door to door in early December. Appraisers will carry a photo ID, an inspecting authorization letter from the city, and all vehicles will be red in color and have the Associated Appraisal logo on them. More information can be found on the city’s website or by contacting Associated Appraisal Consultants at 800-721-4157.
