Waupun Correctional Officer Accused Of Assault Will Head To Trial

(Waupun) A Waupun Correctional Officer accused of having inappropriate contact with an inmate will head to trial. Melissa Fiedler waived her right to a preliminary hearing on charges of felony Second Degree Sexual Assault by Correctional Staff and Delivering Illegal Articles to an Inmate. Last December, correctional officers were made aware that a prisoner was in possession of a cell phone. The phone reportedly contained several sexually explicit texts from a number reportedly belonging to Fiedler. Prosecutors say another inmate saw Fiedler engaging in sexual acts with the prisoner.  When questioned, the 24-year-old initially denied the accusations but later allegedly admitted she texted the inmate. If convicted, Fiedler faces over 43 years in prison. An arraignment hearing is scheduled for January 24.
