11/15/17 – The Waupun Common Council adopted the 2018 budget during their meeting Tuesday night. The $11-million document includes a tax levy of just over $3-million, an increase of 12-percent, or $321,000 dollars, from the current budget. The mill rate is 86-cents higher for Waupun residents in Fond du Lac County at $7.68 per thousand while Dodge County residents will see an increase of 82-cents to $7.66. The price of an average home in Fond du Lac County is $126,000 and that property owner will pay $108 more this year for the city portion of their tax bill. In Dodge County, where the average home price is $105,000 dollars, the tax bill will be $86 higher. City Administrator Kathy Schlieve says this budget gets Waupun on track in addressing long term capital needs. She says many projects have been deferred for a long time and the public has been vocal about it. Schlieve says a plan needed to be put in place to begin tackling those concerns over the long term through grants and other funding mechanisms. The capital improvement budget totals $476-thousand dollars and includes the razing of Washington School, a replacement fire alarm system at the Community Center and the asphalt mill and overlay of Franklin and Walker streets.
