Watertown Man Convicted On Assault Charge

10/31/17 – A Watertown man was convicted Tuesday of having inappropriate contact with a minor. Andrew Schommer entered a no contest plea to one felony count of Second Degree Sexual Assault of a Child. The 27-year-old had a relationship with a 14-year-old girl in January. A friend of the victim brought the relationship to the attention of the school resource officer. The victim refuted the claims at first but came forward voluntarily in February after the relationship ended. When questioned, Schommer initially denied the accusations but eventually admitted that he had contact with her. A pre-sentencing investigation was ordered and Schommer faces up to 40 years in prison at his February 6 sentencing hearing.
