7/4/17 – There will be a unique attraction returning to this year’s Beaver Dam Lake Days. Attendees will have the opportunity to take a ride in a voyageur canoe. Jerry John Paul Disterhaft of Fox On The River Voyageur Canoe says that the watercraft were similar to modern day truckers. He says back then there were no roadways so the only way to get around was on the waterways. The voyageur canoe could carry up to one-half to two tons worth of cargo. Glenn Jacques Gorsuch, who joined Disterhaft on a recent appearance on WBEV’s Community Comment, says the boats were used frequently to travel through Wisconsin waterways. Their canoe is called a ‘North Canoe’ and is roughly 28-feet long. Beaver Dam Lake Days will take place July 6th through the 8th with canoe rides available that Friday from 4pm until 8:30pm and Saturday from 10am until 2pm. The ride is free but donations are welcomed.
