(Beaver Dam) Vita Park Eye Associates in Beaver Dam is the latest worksite to become Blue Zones-approved. The ribbon was cut Friday on the eye clinic, which officials with the Dodge County Blue Zones Project say has demonstrated its commitment to improving community well-being through the designation. The initiative is sponsored by the Beaver Dam Community Hospital. CEO Kim Miller says Vita Park is leading the way on significant work for the entire community.

Dr. Jay Wilkens was familiar with the Blue Zones Project long before it came to Beaver Dam. Wilkens has cousins in Albert Lea, Minnesota the first-ever Blue Zones site designated ten years ago. He has been learning over the years about their success stories and says he hopes to see that in Beaver Dam as well. Wilkens says he considers the designation a gift to his employees, creating a healthy worksite that is conducive to them being healthier which leads to happier people. His colleague, Dr. Tom Castillo says as physicians it is especially important for them to be healthy role models.
