Virgil “Bud” R. Smith, age 95, of Beaver Dam, died peacefully on Tuesday, December 11, 2018 at the Charleston House Memory Care.
The visitation will be at Koepsell-Murray Funeral Home in Beaver Dam on Friday, December 14, 2018 from 10:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. The American Legion Post #146 is invited to walk through at 10:45 a.m. and the funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. with Deacon Randy Wells officiating. Inurnment will be at St. Peter Cemetery in the spring.
Virgil Rollo Smith was born on July 18, 1923 in Baraboo, Wisconsin to Martin and Pearl (Whitmore) Smith. Virgil attended St. Peter’s Elementary School and was a 1941 graduate of Beaver Dam High School. Bud entered the United States Army in January of 1943 during WWII and was honorably discharged in March of 1946. Virgil was united in marriage with Mae J. Karas in Beaver Dam on October 19, 1946. Bud was a mail carrier for the Beaver Dam Post Office. He was a member of the National Association of Letter Carriers and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. Other organizations that Bud was involved with was the Knights of Columbus, AARP, and the Fraternal Order of Eagles. He was a lifelong member of St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Parish.
Survivors include his four children, JoAnn (Tom) Helfert of Beaver Dam, Wayne (Beverly) Smith of Beaver Dam, Jeanine (Tom) Sachs of Shawano, and Gary (Julie) Smith of Edgerton; eight grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; brother, Erwin (Phyllis) Smith of Palm Harbor, FL; sister, Deloris Brost of Beaver Dam; other relatives and friends. Virgil was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mae on February 23, 2018; a grandson, Craig Smith; and siblings, Gerald, Donald, and Berndetta Uebel.
Memorials may be made in Virgil’s name to Hillside Hospice / Homecare.
