Van Brunt Elementary School Earns Blue Zones Designation

(Horicon) The ribbon was cut Friday on the newest Blue Zone Project-approved worksite. The Van Burnt Elementary School in Horicon earned the designation after incorporating the program Mind Up, which was created for educators to help them improve student engagement, into classroom education. Also, teachers taught curriculum that gives students a better understanding of the food they consume. Van Brunt Principle Lisa Sawyer says she is glad to see students participate in mindfulness activities as well as taking initiative to research and share healthy living tips over morning announcements. The Blue Zones Project, sponsored by the Beaver Dam Community Hospital, is a community-led well-being improvement initiative designed to make healthy choices easier through permanent changes to environment, policy, and social networks.
