Three Beaver Dam Business Assessed Demerit Point Violations

5/13/17 – Several Beaver Dam area businesses were assessed demerit points this week related to liquor law violations and for a bar fight. Johnny’s Lounge on 519 Madison St. was assessed 80 points for failure to maintain order stemming from a April 29 incident were a patron said he was dragged out of the bar and punched multiple times. La Tapatia Bar & Grill on 1105 North Spring St. has been assessed twice for not having a licensed bartender on May 4th and May 5th totaling 160 demerit points. Lastly, the BP Gas Station at 201 South Spring St. was assessed 230 points for selling alcohol to a minor in an undercover police operation and for not having a licensed bartender on the premise. The city council adopted a demerit point ordinance in 2009 to better manage drinking establishments that break the law. Taverns that accumulate 200 points in a rolling 18-month period could have their license suspended or revoked.
