Third WEDC Audit Positive

5/18/17 – A third audit of Wisconsin’s job creation agency shows its financial controls are better, but it still cannot say how many jobs have been created with the tax dollars they’ve been given. Mark Hogan, who heads the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation, says it’s working to improve the way it keeps of track of its millions of dollars in tax money it awards new and expanding companies. He says the Center for Regional Economic Competitiveness is studying the matter — and when the results are implemented, they’ll give taxpayers and lawmakers what he calls “the additional certainty” they expect and deserve. The non partisan Legislative Audit Bureau released its latest findings Wednesday. Audit committee co chairman Rob Cowles says “a cloud will remain” above the W-E-D-C until it can “accurately verify data being received from award recipients.”
