5/13/17 – Meanwhile, minority Democrats in the state Legislature are proposing four bills to preserve health care for Wisconsinites amid uncertainty at the federal level. The four measures would protect people with preexisting conditions, cover preventive care with no copays or deductibles, prohibit annual and lifetime limits on insurance coverage and make health insurers cover elements like hospitalizations, drug treatments, and maternity care. Minority Democrats have seen their ranks shrink in both houses since 2011. Milwaukee Democrat David Reimer says if the bills can’t pass, at least they’ll try to put Republicans on record with the goal of putting a crimp into the G-O-P in the 2018 elections. Republican Assembly finance chair John Nygren says Wisconsin will use high risk insurance pools to protect those with preexisting conditions. He says that safety net existed before Obamacare.
