(Dodge County) Dodge County Farmers for Healthy Soil and Healthy Water will be hosting an upcoming workshop for farmers interested in soil health and cover crops. Steve Groff, a farmer and founder of Cover Crop Innovators, will be describing how to introduce covers into cropping systems common to Dodge County.
Groff’s farm has taken part in many cover crop trials resulting in the development of the “Tillage Radish”, which has gained popularity around the world as a cover crop option. His experiences with cover crops will allow him to share valuable information, including the payback on cover crop options. UW specialists will also be on hand to discuss methods of establishment and termination of cover crops. Heidi Johnson, Dane County of the University of Wisconsin Extension will be sharing her experience using cover crops as a forage source. Local producers will be discussing how they introduced covers into their grain and livestock cropping systems.
