All Six Wisconsin Honor Flights Taking Vietnam Vets

5/30/17 – All six Honor Flight programs in Wisconsin now welcome those who served in Vietnam. The one day flights began in 2008, so dwindling numbers of World War Two veterans could see their national memorial in Washington before they die. In recent years, the Honor Flight programs started taking veterans from other conflicts — and Brian Ziegler of Badger Honor Flight, which covers Dodge County, says that all six regional programs now take Vietnam veterans. In 2015, the Vietnam group outnumbered those from all other conflicts on Wausau’s Honor Flight, and it’s been four years since Vietnam soldiers and Marines started taking what Ziegler calls “the long overdue welcome home/thank you they never got when they returned home.” The veterans make the trips for free, backed by numerous donations plus fees from chaperones — and Ziegler says about 38-hundred are on waiting lists.
