Sheriff’s Lieutenant Injured In Chase

3/22/17 – A Dodge County Sheriff’s Lieutenant was injured Tuesday night after a suspect fled the scene traffic stop. The incident happened at 11:40pm on State Highway 49 near Shamrock Road in the Town of Chester.  The driver, identified as Matthew Ellcey of Waupun, reportedly fled the traffic stop dragging the Sheriff’s lieutenant for a short distance as he fled.  The lieutenant sustained minor injuries and was treated at Waupun Memorial Hospital and released. A pursuit of Ellcey was initiated and continued into the city of Waupun.  The 22-year-old Ellcey lost control of his vehicle and crashed at the intersection of East Main Street and South Watertown Street.  He fled from the scene but was later apprehended at a Waupun residence after deputies searched other locations that the suspect had entered, including National Rivet and Manufacturing Company. Ellcey was arrested and booked into the Dodge County Detention Facility.  This case remains under investigation. Charges being requested through the Dodge County District Attorney’s Office include Knowingly Fleeing an Officer and Obstructing an Officer Causing Injury, among others. The Wisconsin State Patrol handled the investigation of the crash with assistance from the Waupun Police Department, and the Beaver Dam Police Department K-9 Unit.
