Sheriff Discusses Election Take-Aways On Community Comment

(Juneau) Dodge County Sheriff Dale Schmidt joined on us on WBEV’s Community Comment yesterday. It was the first appearance for Schmidt since he withstood a challenge from a primary opponent on last month’s ballot. He noted that the concerns of some employees came to light during the election. The sheriff acknowledged there was a breakdown in communication and says keeping the lines of communication open will be stressed going forward. Schmidt is encouraging his staff to come to him with problems and solutions and says his door is always open.

He was asked by a caller if there is any animosity against his primary opponent Jim Ketchem, a longtime veteran of the sheriff’s office who was recently named police chief in Mayville. Schmidt says they have been friends for a long time and while this brought up some issues he would never speak ill of him, adding it’s just “how the election process works.” The sheriff says he continues to work side-by-side with Ketchem’s most adamant supporters and they are working through any issues because at the end of the day they all have to get the job done for the citizens of Dodge County. Schmidt is running unopposed on the November ballot.
