(Juneau) The Dodge County Sheriff says public outreach as it relates to criminal investigations is a priority for his department moving forward. Sheriff Dale Schmidt discussed the initiative as part of the broader topic of his annual performance objectives during a recent appearance on WBEV’s Community Comment. Schmidt says he wants his detectives to share their knowledge more with the public. He says the detectives are experts in crime prevention and its root causes, information that is important for citizens to know. Schmidt says the plan is to also teach area business how to better protect themselves from crime. He says another priority will be more training on how to handle an active shooter scare. Schmidt says it has been difficult to find time for his detectives to train because of caseloads and work schedules.
