11/17/17 – Local elected officials have not even begun circulating campaign papers yet but already some ballots in the spring election are starting to take shape. Waupun Mayor Julie Nickel announced during this week’s Common Council meeting that she would be seeking her first full term in office this spring. Nickel first became mayor when she filled the vacant position created after Kyle Clark stepped down for health reasons in the summer of 2016. She served six months before running unopposed in a special election for a one-year term this past spring. Other Dodge County-area mayors who have announced their plans to seek re-election include Fox Lake Mayor Tom Bednarek, who was first elected mayor in 2010. Mayville Mayor Rob Boelk announced in September that he is seeking a second term come April. Horicon Council President Nathan Anfinson announced his bid for the mayor’s seat earlier this month. Current Mayor Steve Neitzel tells us that he will not be seeking another term.
