Record-Setting Year For WBEV-WXRO Children’s Radiothon

(Beaver Dam) It was another record-setting year for the WBEV-WXRO Children’s Radiothon. The 27-hour marathon broadcast raised money for eleven Dodge County-area non-profit agencies that work with kids. Good Karma Brands President and CEO Craig Karmazin announced the totals at the end of the Radiothon. The fundraiser, that wrapped up Friday morning around 9am, brought-in $130,758.67…all of which will be going to the organizations. Last year, the total announced was $126,852. Over 21 years, the event has raised just over $1.9-million dollars and is around $10-thousand dollars shy of $2-million.

The on-air auction accounted for $18,974 of the total. Noel’s Angel Walk and Nate’s Lemonade Stand collected $9485 with eight-year-old Nate’s lemonade contributing $1345.  Cash donations collected on the roof of the radio station accounted for $3219 of the total. The dessert auction raised $2353. Each year, the agencies that benefit from the Radiothon pair-up and compete to see who can contribute the most money to the final total with the winner receiving the coveted Dodge County Service Cup trophy. This year’s winning team was once again Green Valley Enterprises and ARC Dodge County who raised $7843. The final tally was also bolstered by an anonymous donation and a last-minute donation of $10-thousand dollars by Chuck and Randy Neuman. Karmazin notes that all of the money is staying in the Dodge County-area.

The eleven organizations benefiting are People Against A Violent Environment, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Dodge County and the Watertown Community, Green Valley Enterprises, YMCA of Dodge County, Clothes for Kids, the Watertown Family Center, ARC Dodge County, Community Care Preschool and Child Care, the Beaver Dam Area Arts Association, Church Health Services and – new this year – CARE for Dodge County.
