Racing Community Mourns Death At Beaver Dam Track

(Beaver Dam) Officials with the Beaver Dam Raceway say their thoughts and prayers go out to the Jason Johnson family. The Sprint-car racer died in a crash Saturday night at the World of Outlaws run at the track in the Town of Beaver Dam. Dodge County dispatch records indicate that the wreck was reported at 9:46pm. The crash occurred on lap 18 following a restart when Johnson’s vehicle flipped and crashed through the billboards at turn three. He was flown to Aurora Summit Hospital.  A social media post by the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series says (quote) “dirt-track racing is a big family and our family is grieving right now.” A post by Jason Johnson Racing says they are “heart-broken and saddened” calling the Louisiana driver a “leader, friend, family member and hero.” Johnson was the Outlaws Rookie of the Year in 2015 and won the Knoxville, Iowa Nationals in 2016. He is survived by a wife and son. In September of 2014, 47-year-old Scott Semmelmann of Brookfield died at the raceway during a practice run.
