Portage Man Heading To Trial In Shooting Death Of Neighbor

(Madison) A 49-year-old Portage man has been bound over for trial on second-degree reckless homicide charges.  Prosecutors say Calvin Eldridge of Portage shot his neighbor to death May 7th.  During a Thursday hearing in Columbia County Court, a not guilty plea was entered on his behalf.  Responding officers found Reynolds suffering a gunshot wound in the doorway to his apartment and he told officers Eldridge had shot him.  Eldridge said the other man reached for his gun while they were struggling, so he pistol-whipped him, then shot Reynolds.
