Plea Hearing Scheduled For Waupun Man Who Dragged Officer

6/30/17 – A Waupun man charged in connection with a police chase that involved dragging a Dodge County Sheriff’s lieutenant a short distance has a plea hearing on the calendar next month. Matthew Ellcey original had his hearing scheduled for yesterday but was not prepared to enter into a plea. Ellcey is facing felony counts of Obstructing an Officer and Fleeing and Eluding a Traffic Officer Resulting in Bodily Harm. During a traffic stop in March, the lieutenant reached in the vehicle to try and stop Ellcey who was slowly putting his vehicle into gear on Highway 49. The officer was later treated at Waupun Memorial Hospital and released. The 23-year-old headed to Waupun where he crashed his vehicle and took off on foot before being caught. If convicted, Ellcey is facing up to 12-years in prison. The plea hearing is scheduled for July 17.
