5/3/17 – The Beaver Dam Police and Fire Commission agreed by consensus last night to move forward with developing the preliminary concept plan for a north side fire station. Chief Alan Mannel presented city officials with a report on the new fire station in March and says this is the next logical step in the process. Mannel says if the north side station is constructed another nine, full-time firefighter/paramedics would be needed at the new facility, three per shift. PFC Commissioner Casey Carney noted that the city only continues to grow. Chair Jeff Kohman pointed out that a new fire station was identified in a space needs study conducted in the past ten years. Kohman directed Mannel not to spend any money in developing the concept pointing out that nothing is in the budget. The current fire station is located at South Lincoln and Henry streets. Mannel has said that an ideal location for a second station would target the Highway 151 and County Highway B corridor. It takes the Beaver Dam Fire Department eight minutes to respond to the city’s largest recreational facility, the YMCA, and 13 minutes to get to the city’s largest employer, the Walmart Distribution Center.
