Pardeeville Woman Appears On Eighth OWI Charge

(Pardeeville) A Pardeeville woman is accused of driving impaired for an eighth time. Jacquelyn Austin is facing felony Operating While Intoxicated charges in Dodge County court following her arrest early Thursday in the Town of Oak Grove. The 37-year-old was reportedly weaving and crossing over the center line on County Road S when deputies initiated a traffic stop around 1:45am. The deputy asked her how much marijuana she had smoked and she said that she does not use marijuana. The deputy then asked how much alcohol she had to drink and she responded by saying that she does not use marijuana. Austin then listed several medications that she had taken, including one because it was (quote) “for bed time.” A preliminary breath test registered no alcohol in her system but she failed field sobriety tests. She was arrested and allegedly confessed to the deputy on the way to jail that her blood tests would come back with cocaine in her system because she had been smoking crack. Austin was first arrested for OWI in 1999 with the most recent offense in 2012. Cash bond was set at $25-thousand dollars yesterday (Thursday) and a judge will decide next week if there is enough evidence to order a trial.
