Overnight Structure Fire In Waupun Displaces Three

(Waupun) Fire swept through a duplex in Waupun overnight. Crews responded shortly after 11pm to a two-story, two-unit apartment at 36 West Franklin Street owned by Douglas and Betty Woxland. Upon arrival, Chief BJ DeMaa says flames were visible coming from the front of the house and in the living room area.  Firefighters knocked down the fire within 20 minutes and remained on scene for around three hours overhauling the structure and checking a neighboring apartment unit. Tenants in both apartment units were able to escape without injury and no firefighters were hurt during operations. One unit sustained significant smoke and fire damage while the neighboring unit sustained only smoke damage.  In total, three people were displaced.  The cause remains under investigation and damage estimates have yet to be determined. Waupun was assisted at the scene by fire departments from Alto and Brandon/Fairwater along with Fond du Lac County RIT Team 5, the Waupun Police Department, Lifestar Ambulance, Waupun Utilities, and Alliant Energy
