4/14/17 – One person was transported following a structure fire Wednesday night in the Town of Herman. The call was reported just after 8pm to an older farm house at N7164 Hilldale Road. Iron Ridge Fire Chief Jason Boeck says heavy smoke was coming from the basement of the residence when crews arrived on scene. Boeck says firefighters used a fire suppression tool, which minimized water damage, and around 50 gallons of water in quickly knocking down the flames. A renter was at home at the time of the blaze and reportedly attempted to extinguish the flames himself. He suffered smoke inhalation and was transported by Allenton EMS to St. Joseph’s Hospital in West Bend. His wife, who was initially not at home, is the one who called 9-1-1. The fire was contained to the unfinished basement, the rest of the home sustained minor smoke damage and the occupants are expected to be able to return after having to make overnight arrangements the night of the fire. Dodge County Sheriff Dale Schmidt says his office is investigating the cause of the fire. Units assisting Iron Ridge at the scene included Neosho, Woodland, Allenton and Hartford. The scene was cleared in around 90 minutes.
